Evolution of E-Organizational Behavior and Leadership in the Technological Workplac
As we progress through the new millennium, internet technology is revolutionizing organizational systems and behaviors of the employees and managers. The remaining constant is change which now happens faster and contains more uncertainty than ever. Adaptation and flexibility are becoming important paradigms to business as it moves towards the information superhighway for both front and back end processes. The question is how do we modify traditional organizational behavior concepts to "e-organiz

1. No generally accepted rules, e-organizational practices are still in their infancy and are constantly in flux
2. The fast eat the slow, in an ever changing daily marketplace, adjustments and modification of organizational goals are key to survival and progress
3. Location doesn’t matter with more employees being hired remotely as consultants, outsourcing across country borders and the virtual avenues to communicate
4. Integrated information systems and effective management is everything to maintain an effective workplace, minimizing the many avenues of Internet distraction

The paradox of the e-organization is that internet facilitation increase social isolation while increasing the levels of community across electronic channels. This has great effects on Individual behaviors. Emotions of employees aren’t left at home, and with this isolation becoming more prevalent, it is important for managers to encourage the expression of emotion and keep an open workplace. Motivation is also an evolving topic of e-organizational behavior to avoid losses in efficiency and increase in distraction resulting from the ease of internet surfing, social networking, gaming etc. Managers must implement creative compensation and benefit models. The employee of an e-org contains unique attributes of technical proficiency and adaptation to change and uncertainty. These people are few and far between and they know it and must be motivated properly with performance based incentives, stock options and long term revenue sharing potential.
The most important topic is group behavior and decision making which is the major basis of the ever changing e-organization workplace. Managers should encourage trial and error, learning from mistakes and value experimentation. Communication no longer is bounded by hierarchal constraints, and the office is on more of a level playing ground. Leadership is mainly based on the speed of decision making process with fast growth, intense competition with low barriers of entry, it is a sprint not a marathon. The facets of organizational management must adapt to this and leaders need to maintain flexibility and have a constant vision of the future to keep pace with the trends of internet business.
