Everything You Need to Know About a Military School
Here's a tip for a parent thinking about sending their teen to a military school. In the interview process, don't tell the school you want your child whipped into shape and that you are prepared to pay top dollar for this service.

Military schools are proud of their excellence in giving students a quality academic program, one which enables most if not all to attend college. A military school does not want lazy or disrespectful students. It will attempt to weed out such applicants in the interview process. And it certainly isn't a dumping ground for children of irresponsible parents.

But if you as a parent want a top academic curriculum program for your child, if you want them to be brought up in a disciplined and highly structured school, if you want your child to have the opportunity to enjoy sporting and artistic pursuits, then a military school may be ideal for your child.

A military school is proud of its reputation and the fact that many generations of different families have sent their child to their school. The school takes pride in grooming leaders for the future and giving its students every opportunity to explore their true potential.

Of course the school will push its students. It wants them to succeed. But it will not mollycoddle its students nor tolerate insolent and disrespectful behavior. And in certain cases, it does expel some students.

Many parents worry that the state education system, as good as it is, does sometimes have students who are involved with crime, drugs or immoral behavior. That is why many parents opt to pay the fees required in sending their child to a military school. The rules of behavior in a military school are clearly set out in writing. Sexual behavior, smoking, alcohol, drugs and other issues are strictly forbidden and breaking a rule will have consequences. Expulsion is a final resort.

Students at a military school are encouraged to be part of the local community, to play a role in local activities and to treat everyone with respect. There is a freedom within the strong discipline but the aim always is to produce well-educated, motivated and mature young people.

Self discipline is a major part of a military school. Reveille at 0600 hours means the students are constantly on their toes. Going into town or having the opportunity to watch approved videos is a privilege and students must earn the right to do so. The aim of the school is always to teach the students to be responsible. Nothing is for nothing.

In recent times military schools have grown in number and reputation. Their academic success speaks for itself and as a stepping stone to a career in the military they are second to none.

As a parent you should consider the many advantages of a military school. If you want your child to succeed academically and grow up in a disciplined and fair environment, a military school may be the perfect fit.
