What You Need

  • Access to the Internet or sports reference books.

What to Do

  1. Ask students to choose and research a sports star from the past century. To get them started, you may want to direct them to a Web site which offers a list of top athletes and their biographies.
  2. Have students prepare a short report on their chosen athlete. Ask them to emphasize any obstacles the athlete faced before or during his or her career, and discuss how those obstacles were overcome.
  3. Ask students to present their reports to the class.
